WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA? “Kundalini Yoga is so holistic I love it. I come away from Georgie’s class feeling as though I have had a great work out, a massage, therapy, spiritual healing and a good sleep!” Deirdre Smith, Australia/Cambodia Over the years I have enjoyed many different schools of yoga. It was only when I discovered Kundalini Yoga that I knew I wanted to study and teach the practice of yoga. Kundalini Yoga is a completely holistic practice, suitable for all ages, all fitness levels and all shapes and sizes. Regular practice increases physical strength, vitality and flexibility. It brings a sense of balance, calmness, clarity, self-acceptance and inner peace. To hear one of my student’s story of how deeply Kundalini Yoga has helped her scroll down to the bottom of this page. And she quite a sceptic to begin with! Or read on first to hear how Kundalini Yoga works. Classes, accompanied by relaxing and uplifting music, focus on raising the Kundalini, our creative energy, through the chakras. The blend of movement, breath, guided deep relaxation and meditation energises, releases stress and anxiety, promotes healthy sleep and improves overall health by strengthening the immune, digestive, eliminative, and nervous systems. |

The use of mantra encourages profound, sustained healing. Many students with back problems find wonderful pain relief and healing in class. Kundalini energy is the energy of consciousness, the soul energy. For thousands of years yogis have described this energy as a serpent curled around the base of the spine. The uncurling of the Kundalini leads to the awakening of our awareness and the fulfilment of our true potential in body, mind and spirit. In this sense Kundalini yoga is a spiritual practice, but not a religious one. People of all faiths and none enjoy this ancient system that helps us master the self, and develop our full potential in life, personally, professionally and spiritually. Kundalini yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayam, mantra, music and meditation, which teach you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class. Men of great knowledge actually found out about the chakras – their workings, their petals, their sounds, their infinity, their co-relationship, their powers. They found that the life of a human is totally based on these chakras. This total science gave birth to Kundalini Yoga.”Yogi Bhajan Here is how one student’s life has been helped by Kundalini Yoga, both on a physical and an emotional level. Thank you A for sharing this so openly! “I had always been slightly sceptical of yoga, but I decided to try your class purely because it was nearby and I needed to get out and do one thing just for me, had a terrible personal 2010, which led to financial troubles and was in a stressful job. My first class, and I knew I had found the thing that could sustain me, that I had actually been seeking for years (had previously tried Tai chi, Reiki, and EFT etc). I immediately felt as if I had a small holiday. In particular my back felt strong, my thoughts became more positive. One of the first things I noticed was how I had been ignoring my body’s signals re my health. I completely started to change how I ate. I am aware of healthy eating anyway, but hadn’t noticed how unhealthy I had become, and automatically my body started to cut down sugar, and I realised that neither wheat nor milk were doing me any good. I later read that the symptoms I had been exhibiting sounded like candida albicans but, quite naturally at the time, (and simultaneously to yoga classes) for a month I cut out most of these things. I have not been radical or fanatical – I still have the odd cup of tea, I no longer have cows milk at all and wheat and sugar is drastically reduced, I feel so much better. Yoga very quietly and naturally was helping me be at home in myself. I heard you say that the meditation (sa ta na ma), if practised for 40 days, would help shift ingrained patterns of behaviour. I knew that I had repeat patterns in relationships despite vastly different partners. Before the 40 days were up, one evening, I had a very small, but vital revelation, in regard to relationships. I wept and I laughed, as it was so incredibly simple. Something that had probably been very obvious to others that have known me a while, but that I had never “seen”. It also explained why, despite my conscious efforts at change, I seemed to end up in a situation that was bizarrely similar. Only the future will tell if this is sustained into change, I would need opportunity to test it, but I am so grateful to know it, and sense that I am changing in this area, in tiny, important ways. To say that Kundalini yoga has changed my life sounds fanatical, or OTT. But it is the truth. I am thankful. Yoga has given me a place (that I go to in my third eye) where life is bountiful, unceasing, and I am loved. For more information about Kundalini Yoga take a look at the following links: |
